Afghanistan Fatalities

Canada's role in the invasion of Afghanistan as an active combatant in operations against the Taliban and other insurgents has produced the largest number of fatal casualties for any single military mission since the 25th Canadian Brigade served in the Korean War. The impact of these casualties on the Taliban, the Canadian Forces, as well as Canada and Afghanistan continues to evolve and will likely be debated for years to come. Current opinion in Canada is split.

It doesn't matter, though, does it? Soldiers, Sailors, and Airfolk don't deploy because we agree with a mission or because we want to see some part of the world. We deploy because our job is to enforce the foreign policy of Canada. The debate can go on after we go but in the meantime we will do our jobs wherever the mission is and under whatever conditions exist there. We think about our families and miss them when we are off watch and we think about our jobs when we are on because that is the most likely way to get back to them.

I hope I get comments about some of the people here. Where appropriate, I will include the comments in the links to the heros as their stories grow. I especially welcome comments and emails from families of CF people deployed to make you and them more real to those who read these posts.
